Obituary for Thomas McNaught

Thomas McNaught
Thomas (Tony) McNaught ~ 1926 – 2017
Loving husband of Maria Concetta McNaught (nee Mifsud).
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Thomas (always called Tony) is
predeceased my his father Harry, mother Mary, and by his
siblings Harry, Isa, Jack, Bill, Edward (Teddy), and Margaret.
Raised in Glasgow, Tony enlisted during WWII, and was posted to
the Mediterranean island of Malta with the Royal Artillery,
based at Fort Benhisa, near the seaside town of Birzebbuga.
It was in Malta that he met his beloved Concetta - Cettina to her
friends and family. After the end of the war, Tony remained in
Malta until he was demobilised in 1947, at which time he married
Cettina in her small home town of Kalkara. They returned to
Scotland where son Lawrence was born in 1948, and then son
Paul in 1952. Tony, who left school when he was only 14, was a
bright ambitious lad. After following in his father’s footsteps at
Beattie’s commercial bakery, he joined the Marks and Spencer
department store chain. His career at Marks took him
throughout Scotland. As new stores opened, he was
seconded to set up the warehouse operations, eventually
being posted to Liverpool, England before emigrating to Canada
in 1965. His second career was as an expediter with Atomic
Energy of Canada in the heyday of the Candu reactor. He retired
in 1986. Tony was a devoted parishioner in his church, Christ The
King Catholic Church in Mimico, Toronto. He was a member
of his local Alcoholics Anonymous for many years as its
treasurer, and was a well-respected speaker throughout Ontario,
in addition to the many men and women he sponsored and
supported. Tony is survived by his wife Cettina, and his sons
Lawrence and Paul. Tony did his best for his family, and in all his
endeavours. He will be missed, and he will be remembered.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 11th from 3:00 p.m to
6:00 p.m at the G. H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Ave,
Etobicoke. Funeral mass will take place on Monday, June 12th at
11:30am at Christ The King Catholic Church, 3674 Lake Shore
