Condolence From: Craig Ferguson
Condolence: I just heard about Gary's untimely passing in time to attend Gary's grave side service on a very cold Friday yesterday at Park Lawn Cemetery. I managed to slip in a eulogy at the end of the funeral service, to give the many attending family members a sense of what Gary had been like at his lifetime place of employment, the Peel District School Board. I had already read the touching condolence left by Gary's sister, Debbie. It breaks my heart to have read that Gary was bullied mercilessly in school. It brings back many ugly memories of bullying incidents that I witnessed, growing up in the public school system. Bullying was rampant back then. But Gary seemed to have come through all of that with a kind soul and a generous heart. He was a great morale booster at the central board office at the Peel District School Board. He participated his time generously to the United Way events, and was the main driver of the United Way horse races held in the atrium during the lunch hours. He would line up trustees, the directors and assistant directors, superintendents, and interesting characters to fill the roles of "race horses". Gary would put a hard sell on everyone passing the United Way table during the lunch hours to buy draw tickets.
Gary ran his own fund raising draws on Valentine's Day, and Halowe'en. He also was the main driver of a staff Christmas Party one year. Gary worked on the annual central board office golf tournaments, and brought his parents, his uncle Neil, and his Aunt Molly as guests, for as many years as their health held out. You could see the love in his family. They adored Gary, and he obviously loved and respected his family.
Gary was one of the main organizers of those golf tournaments. I mentioned that every eager and excellent golfer, plus George Tomas, looked forward to those tournaments. (I was kidding George, you are getting better !) But those golf tournaments were morale boosters for the golfing staff. We all looked forward to them every year.
Gary was always one to have something nice to say to everyone. He would crack his corny jokes to lift up your day. He was a harmless flirt, who brightened the day for the ladies. He brought a little ray of sunshine into everyone's day, and would go out of his way to offer assistance. I can still hear his laugh, as he laughed often. And that is what I said at his burial service, that those little rays of sunshine that Gary so often added to everyone's day brought all of those in attendance to honour Gary's memory, and support his family, and the love of this life, Cyndi. God be with you, Gary, and God Bless

Condolence: Such a wonderful tribute to your brother Debbie.
Gary was very much part of the Peel family, always participating in the charity events such as United Way campaign and organizing golf tournaments.
Not too many people knew that but he was ambitious, taking courses, hoping to move up ...
It hard to believe he is gone and we will never see him again...
Please accept my sincere condolences

Condolence: My deepest sympathy goes out to Gary's family and Cyndi for your loss. He was taken way too soon. It's been a very sad time for Gary's co-workers at the NFO. His "Ladies" as he referred to us, were very fortunate to have had a breakfast with Gary and spent some time visiting with him just 4 days before he passed. I don't think any of us thought that day that he would be leaving us that soon so it came as a shock. I'm glad that he didn't endure more pain and suffering and he is now at peace. Gary was very friendly and helpful to everyone who came to the NFO and had a huge heart and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Debbie, thank you so much for the amazing stories and information you shared with us about Gary and the life he had before we knew him as well as the pictures You did him proud. RIP Gary

Condolence: Gary, You gave so much in your many years in Peel.
So many good memories.
For the older ones, the days at Windy Oaks, near Mineola PS, when Rene and Gary would be cleaning and shipping 16mm films all day.
Then the big move to CBO.
Gary was heavily involved in the United Way, helping and running many a campaign at our head office, doing the work that no one else would because it was the right thing to do.
Gary was also involved in the CBO golf tournament, where he combined his skills at Golf with his persuasive personality to wrangle prizes from many local businesses for the participants.
But anyone of us that knew Gary knew of person with a big heart and a humble demeaner.
Heaven got another angel this week.
RIP Gary
