Obituary for Violet Derus (Robak)

Violet Wiesia Derus (nee Robak) - passed away peacefully at Copernicus Lodge, Toronto on Thursday December 14th 2017, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Wladyslaw Derus and dear mother of Victor and William, and grandmother of Jeffrey and Alex.
Wiesia was born in Piotrkow Trybunalski ,Poland on January 6th 1922, she was taken during the WWII by the Nazi’s to work as a telephone operator in Berlin. She survived the bombing and end of the war in Berlin in 1945. She stayed in the British sector of Germany after the war and eventually emigrated to Canada in 1948. She landed in Quebec City in the winter of 1948 and travelled by train across Canada to Calgary, where she was employed by oilman George McMahon as a nanny. She moved to Montreal in 1950 and then to Toronto in 1952 where she met her husband.
Wiesia was a kind compassionate mother and friend. She spent her life caring for her family and her friends.
