I know it was my mother who taught me to read, but it was my Aunt who encouraged me the most to keep it up. We would go over to the house on a visit and I remember seeing a series of hardcover books in the basement. It was the kids books by Walter Farley... "The Black Stallion" series. My aunt saw me scanning through them and I remember her speaking to me about them and asking me if I was interested in reading them. When I said I was, she agreed to let me take some only if I promised to take care of them while I had them, and to actually read them. I always credit this as being the thing that caused me to really enjoy reading (and later collecting) books. I know I did thank her for letting me take them but I don't think I ever told her what it meant to me by her doing that.
