Obituary for William McMartin
Bill passed away peacefully on April 29th, 2019, at age 67, from his battle with cancer. He will be forever missed by Cindy, his wife of 47 years, his adoring daughter Kimberly and son-in-law James, grandson and best friend Zackary, and loving brother Michael and sister-in-law Paula.
Bill loved many things, always deeply, fully engulfing himself in whatever held his interest. He always had music on (often The Beatles) and had a diverse record and CD collection. He especially loved live music and fondly kept all of his concert ticket stubs over the years - an impressive stack! If he wasn’t at the local movie theatre having a bag of popcorn catching the latest new release, he could be found shopping at various malls or online, or would be at home on his iPad planning our next Disney World vacation, his most favourite place. He loved his Pepsi, accepting Coke if he must. He was a Jays fan, and an Argos supporter, and every year cheered for the Maple Leafs hoping they would finally win the Cup. He kept well informed and up to date on all of his entertainment interests. Always the first to know about all things Mickey Mouse, the upcoming concert line up and the events coming to town, happy to go to just about anything.
But it was being Zack’s “Pops” that brought him the truest joy. Their special bond was instant and only grew deeper. Having a grandchild not only gave Bill more fun reasons to shop but also more opportunities to play. Their car ramp races, superhero battles, growing dinosaur collection, toy store adventures, and endless Disney movie marathons were some of their best moments. Perhaps the most magical though was the gift of time for three amazing Disney family vacations.
Bill lived his life with a gracious and kind heart, always putting others ahead of himself. He was our TV guide, our technology fixer, our downloading magician, our grocery shopper, our trip planner, our driver, and our funny bone. His spirit and humour will live on for our family through all of his interests and hobbies, which became our passions too.
A family service will be held privately.
Donations are appreciated and can be made in Bill’s name to the Toronto Rehab Foundation, directed to the Complex Continuing Care Fund (Bickle Centre).
