Obituary for Maria Grazia Falcone

In loving memory of Maria Grazia Falcone (Russo) February 10th 1928 – December 16th 2018

Maria Grazia Falcone (nee Russo), 90, left this life peacefully at 3:20am on Sunday, December 16th, at her residence in Toronto after braving dementia and a short battle with cancer.

Grazia was born in Roseto, Valfortore, Italy on February 10th 1928, the second of seven children to Salvatore & Beatrice (Sbrocchi) Russo. Grazia worked hard throughout her life from labouring on the family farm in Foggia to a landlord and factory worker in Toronto. In 1960 she traveled by boat with her three daughters to reunite with her husband in Canada and in time welcomed her only son.

A devoted Wife to the late Giuseppe Falcone for 50 years in life and an eternity in her heart. A loving Mother to her four children: Angie, Rosie (Richard Barnhouse), Annette (Chris Pandoff) and Tony (Mita Shanoff). A spirited Nonna to her nine grandchildren: Jessica Capobianco (Tom Lipscomb), Amanda (Scott) Belasco, Michael (Sandra) Sabatino, Laura (Julian) D’Errico, Christina Sabatino, Jordan Pandoff, Christian Pandoff, Daniel & Matthew. A beloved Great-Grandmother, Sister, Zia, Cousin, Godmother, Friend, Neighbour and Parishioner.

Grazia was sweet and selfless, gentle and generous yet a relentlessly strong-willed woman. She loved her family, God, life, music, singing loudly, working the land, chatting on the phone, staying up late and the occasional amaro and chocolate.

Grazia was predeceased by her parents, husband, older brother Nicola (Pasqualina D’uva) and sisters Rosina (Nicola Palmieri) and Lucia.

Grazia leaves behind her brother Giuseppe (the late Anna) sister Maria (the late Carmine Capobianco) sister Michelina (Giacinto Marucci) four children, nine grandchildren and many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Kipling Acres long term care home who truly were a second family to Maria Grazia in the last year and a half of her life.

Family and friends will be received at the G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Avenue, Etobicoke on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 61 Jutland Rd., Etobicoke on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Entombment at Park Lawn Mausoleum.
