Obituary for Joan Eleanor Brown

Joan Eleanor Brown - Passed away peacefully on 29 December 2019, at Belmont House, Toronto, Ontario. Born on 30 October 1928, in South Porcupine, Ontario, she was the eldest daughter of the late Peter and Eleanor (Pope) Mill of Amherst, Nova Scotia.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brothers, Douglas and Peter, and her sisters, Faith and Gayle.

As a young adult, Joan decided to make Toronto, Ontario, her home and was a resident of the Lakeshore/Mimico neighborhood for the best part of seven decades. Joan’s vivacious and outgoing personality soon earned her a legion of life-long friends that became part of her extended family. One special member of that family for 34 years was Bill W.

Joan’s nieces and nephew and her multitude of friends will greatly miss her generous and loving nature as well as her fantastic sense of humour and fondness for a saucy joke.

Joan’s family and friends would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Belmont House, who always made Joan feel at home.

In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Interment will be in the Amherst Cemetery, Amherst, Nova Scotia, at a later date. For those who wish to do so, memorial donations may be made for breast cancer research, The War Amps, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
