Obituary for SAVERIO DELUCA

Dear family and friends,

It is with profound sadness, we announce that Saverio DeLuca passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in his 90th year.

Saverio is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years Antonetta and their children Maria (Alex), Joanne (Antimo), Laura (Dave), and Danny (Karen). Saverio was the adoring Nonno to John (Patricia), Nadia, Paul, Katherine and Alexa, and Bisnonno to Anthony.

Saverio was pre deceased by his parents Donato and Maria, and by his four older brothers Giuseppe (Maria deceased), Michele (Filomena deceased), Giovanni (Maria deceased), and Angelo (Giovanna). He also leaves behind brothers in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, the USA, and Italy.

Born in Panni, Italy, Saverio served in the army where he worked alongside the nursing staff. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and built a beautiful life with his wife, together raising a family he was immensely proud of. When his family was young, he would pack up the car and head out for many a family weekend spent together at the beach or park. He was a very progressive individual who encouraged his children to pursue their dreams, enjoy their hobbies, and never stop learning. Saverio was a hardworking man and a man loyal to the Catholic faith never missing a Sunday service until his illness prevented him from doing so.

Saverio was blessed to retire early and was grateful to be a big part of his grandchildren’s’ upbringing. During his retirement he was also able to spend more time enjoying the outdoors cultivating beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. In 1984 he was awarded accolades for the most beautiful garden in Etobicoke.

Saverio prided himself in providing for his family and in building loving and long lasting friendships. He will be missed by his large circle of friends and neighbours. His kindness, gentleness, and generosity will never be forgotten.

He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him.

Thank you to the teams at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Dorothy Ley Hospice for their support and compassionate care.
