Obituary for RICHARD ELS

Died peacefully on May 10, 2021 at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Toronto, ON at the age of 84. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 61 years Elizabeth, his three daughters, Jennifer (Ian) McIntyre, Karen (Robert) Dandridge and Janice Case (Simon Taylor), his six grandchildren Elizabeth (Tim) Neal, William McIntyre (Corisa McKee), Rachel (Wylie) Webster, Michael Dandridge, Madeleine Case, Richard Case, his great granddaughter Edythe Neal and Toronto nephew Mark Els. Richard also leaves behind extended Els family around the world, the Troy family in Canada as well as close friends the Hunter family. Born in Durban, South Africa Jan 29, 1937, Richard began his career as a court reporter in Bulawayo (Rhodesia), immigrated to Canada in Sept 1966 where he continued his career as a court reporter in the Supreme Court of Ontario for 30 years. He held a lifelong respect and enthusiasm for the game of chess which he played weekly throughout his life. The space that Richard occupied included more books than anyone can imagine. Other lifelong interests included, physics, astronomy, anything computer related, model trains, model planes, Beethoven and The Rolling Stones. He always said he’d write a book, just stay tuned…(also known as ‘just now’). The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sadler and the staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre.
