Obituary for MELISSA JOUEN
Melissa Jouen
Born Jan 02, 1991 in Tahiti, French Polynesia and passed at home in Toronto, ON with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 after a brave battle with cancer since September 2020. Melissa was 31 years of age.
She lived in Tahiti until she immigrated to Canada (Vancouver) with her family at the age of 10. She finished primary school at École Anne-Hébert in Vancouver (francophone school), then attended Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School (Vancouver) - Played basket-ball and Graduated in 2009.
Melissa went on to study at Kwantlen Polytechnic University - Richmond BC then graduated from the University of British Columbia –Vancouver B.C.with a BSc in Biology. She specialized in Regulatory Affairs by studying at Humber College - Toronto, ON.
Melissa decided to stay in Toronto and worked in various pharmaceutical companies: Leo Pharma, Johnson & Johnson, Teva and in 2018 she landed her dream job at Roche Canada on the Global Compliance Audit team.
She is survived by her parents Eddie et Camélia and her older brother Didier. Melissa loved cycling, hiking, reading, movies, music, and most importantly traveling. Her love of travel has taken her to places like New-Zealand, Australia, the Cook Islands, the US (mainland, Alaska and Hawaii), Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong-Kong, Costa Rica, Spain, France, Austria, Switzerland, Iceland, England. However, always an islander, she missed the warm water of the lagoon, the colourful and fragrant flowers of her native island, and the flavours of tropical fruits.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Her family will be forever grateful to the staff at UHN, particularly Dr. Raymond Jang and oncology nurse Glenda Chang from the Princess Margaret Cancer. Her partner David's presence beside Melissa during the most difficult times will always be remembered.
