Obituary for WINSTON AUGUSTINE

Winston Daniel Alexander Augustine, a retired aircraft structural assembler/ engineer, passed away on January 4th, 2023 at the age of 88.

Winston was born in Gouyave, St. John's, Grenada (West Indies) in 1934.  He left Grenada in his twenties and lived and worked in New York, Boston, Indiana, Connecticut, Milwaukee, Florida, New Hampshire as a bartender at an exclusive luxury bar in Brooklyn, NY.  During this time, he went to school each day when he finished his shift.

He went back to Grenada, sent back there by his older sister Cynthia (who passed away in 2018) who felt he needed more structure in his life.  Not too long after, his older brother Clifford (who passed away in 2006) applied for him to become a Canadian citizen.  Winston landed in Hamilton, Ontario first.

Winston had a best friend Leeroy who had a tailor shop and an extra room for him to stay.  He decided to move to Toronto and just three weeks later, Douglas Aircraft announced they were hiring.  Over 600 men applied, wrote the entry test and only 50 men passed that test. Winston passed and was one of the 50 men chosen to start employment at Douglas Aircraft.

He worked at Douglas Aircraft for 10+ years until he was laid off.  Jobs were immediately being offered at de Havilland Aircraft, he applied and worked there as a structural assembler / engineer for the next over 29 and a half years. De Havilland Aircraft changed ownership over the years and is now owned by Bombardier.

Winston loved his daughters and grandchildren and played an integral role in their lives. He also loved watching sports especially baseball, soccer, football and cricket, telling life stories, antedotes and jokes, baking sweetbreads and bread pudding with Grenadian spices and cooking his favourite dish, pig tail soup which he was doing on New Year's Day, just 2 days before he fell ill and passed away.

His faith in GOD was strong and his relationship with JESUS was untouchable. His Spirit and soul are at complete rest now and he will be missed by all who encountered his warm smile and presence.

Winston is survived by his ex-wife Jean, daughters Valerie and C.J., his grandsons Matthew and Joshua, his son-in-law Freddy, his sister-in-law Joan, his nephew Jeffrey, his half siblings Gloria, Grace and Hugh, his sister-in-law Heather and niece Nawa, his nephews Herbert, Raphael and Selwyn and niece Andeen and all their children and grandchildren.

Our family thanks each and every one of you for your ever-flowing prayers, love, kindness, calls and emails of support to each of us during this time of great loss.

His funeral service is scheduled Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 at 11am at Hogle Funeral Home, located at 63 Mimico Ave, Etobicoke, ON, Canada, M8V 1R2.
